Kit has restorated many ailing Teddies. The approach and method varies according to the category of Bear.
Repairs and restoration of a Collector's old, valuable, bear is discussed thoroughly with the owner. Only the minimum amount of work is done on it, such as cleaning and treatment of the fabric, re-inforcement of weak sections, lining and super-imposement of pads, and replacement of missing parts such as eyes, all as required.
A Bear which is to be handed down lovingly and generously to a member of the new generation may, or may not, be very valuable, and will need to be prepared for possible rough handling by the new owner.
Very occasionally, a Bear is required to love and amuse even a third generation. In such a case, it may be advisable to use softer stuffing so that the Bear's fabric will last longer, older Bears being usually stuffed with a relatively hard material, often "wood-wool", a material that is often abrasive and unfriendly to old, thinning, fabric. In other cases, the original stuffing was foam rubber, now reduced to chips and dust. Such a condition could necessitate an extensive re-stuffing. Softer stuffing in old fabric will help to extend the fabric's life.
It is often possible to repair a dysfunctional growler, though it can always be replaced if the original cannot be resuscitated, or if a new growler is specified. Musical movements can also be fitted if required.
